About the Very Venerable Tersay Thutop Rinpoche
At the age of 13, Rinpoche was recognized by Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa as the reincarnation of the previous Tersay Thutop Rinpoche at Palpung Monastery. One year later, Rinpoche was enthroned at Karma Thubten Chokhor Ling Maha Monastery in Ladakh, which he presided over for two decades.
Every winter Rinpoche returned to Palpung Sherabling to receive lineage transmissions from Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa and the V.V. late fifth Kyabje Salje Rinpoche. On December 2, 2003 Rinpoche returned to Palpung Sherabling, and at the age of 22 took the full ordination vow from Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa.
At 25, he was assigned by Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa to travel to 23 Karma Kagyu centers in Taiwan and Hong Kong to give Dharma teachings. Rinpoche learned and taught in Mandarin. At the request of his disciples Rinpoche later established Palpung Sherabling Kaohsiung Center. Currently Rinpoche supervises all four Palpung Sherabling centers in Taiwan.
Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa bestowed precious transmissions of "Mahamudra Ocean of Certainty" at the supplication of Thutop Rinpoche who also took charge of the yearly transmission preparatory work until 2009. This lineage transmission took 6 years to complete; the first group transmission was completed in 2010, and the second group in 2013.
Starting in 2004 Rinpoche was also assigned by Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa to take charge of the Palpung International Institute of Buddhist Studies Project. Upon completion in 2009, it became one of the main facilities at Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat that holds many of the precious teachings and transmissions by Guru Vajradhara; and house majority of the students from all parts of the world.
Finally, we are very grateful for Rinpoche's supplication to Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa to bestow the teachings on "Gampopa's Ornament of Precious Liberation." Under Rinpoche's direction, Palpung Audio and Video Archive successfully launched these extended series of video conferencing teachings in 2013, which is estimated to continue for at least 3 years. Currently there are 14 centers with hundreds of students globally participating in this live video conferencing teaching.
